Beethoven:Symphony No. 5 in C minor Op. 67 Incorporating Hiroki Inagaki's Retouschen ベートーヴェン:交響曲第5番 ハ短調 Op. 67 (re-orchestration:稲垣宏樹) Nanzan University Orchestra / Hiroki Inagaki, conductor May 4, 2012 Aichi Arts Center Concert Hall(Live Recording) Performance Video : https://youtu.be/_YXn9rPvKuw ーーーーー There are works that Beethoven completed but was not satisfied with and had to compromise on. One typical example is the part in the Symphony of Heroes where he wanted to spin the main melody on trumpet, but had to substitute woodwinds. This arrangement is not so much a re-arrangement as it is a reinforcement and substitution of instruments, and many parts may not be noticed on first hearing. Detailed performance instructions have also been written in, Beethoven's performance on the instruments he gave up has been restored, and as brass instruments have improved and usage has changed, melodies that were once out of tune have been added, or notes that were too high have been lowered, among other treatments. Furthermore, timpani parts that do not match the basses have been changed to match the basses as much as possible using pedals. The retouch to these orchestrations is widely known in the arranged version by Gustav Mahler. My arrangement has the same problematics as Mahler's, but re-orchestrates them in a completely different way. I would like to thank the Nanzan University Orchestra for performing this score under my conducting. Thank you very much.

Rain Coming - Tōru Takemitsu|Aichi Sinfonietta, Hiroki Inagaki

Tōru Takemitsu (1930 - 1996) : Rain Coming (1982) Aichi Sinfonietta, Hiroki Inagaki October 5, 2001, Shirakawa Hall The photograph shows a letter from Toru Takemitsu in his own handwriting, which I had the opportunity to conduct for the first time in July 1994 at the Aoyama Ongaku Kinenkan Baroque Saal in Kyoto (with the Polyhymnia Ensemble). I sent the tape of that performance to the maestro at the risk of being scolded, and received an unexpectedly very happy letter in reply. The Japanese text translated into English is as follows. “I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sending me the tape of ‘Rain Coming’ from the Ministry of Crown Affairs. It was a very sympathetic performance. Thank you very much. My piece is not so technically difficult, but the ensemble, breathing, tempo and colour transitions are not so easy. I was happy to see the attention to detail in your performance. I wish you all the best in your activities.
